2025 Tough Mudder Volunteer Medical Info Pack
TOUGH MUDDER UK 2025 - VOLUNTEER MEDICAL INFO PACK
Section 1: Virus Safety
Virus Safety Guidelines - Coronavirus:
- In-line with the current UK Government Roadmap & Guidelines for ‘Living with COVID-19’, Volunteers will not be expected to provide certification of vaccination or a negative lateral flow test to gain entry to our event sites. However, should there be any change to the guidance between today and any 2024 event date which causes us to implement alternative measures, we will inform you accordingly.
- Volunteers are welcome to wear facial coverings across the event site should they wish.
Please note: here are our updated Tough Mudder UK Coronavirus and Monkeypox guidelines.
Section 2: Medical Incidents
Medical Incident:
If a Mudder, Spectator or Volunteer is injured on course, please ensure that you relay the requirement to your head of channel.
We ask all Mudders to cross both their arms above their head to form a cross, which will in turn, ensure that the medical team can follow the line of crosses until they reach the patient. Always make sure there is someone next to the incident with their arms crossed above their head to make identifying location easier when the Medics arrive. Ensure there is not a continuing danger that could threaten your safety or those around you. If so, warn those in the area to vacate the location until TMHQ or Medical staff can arrive.
Medical Services:
Medical Teams are located in a combination of pods across each zone, as well as roaming resources across the entirety of the Course. There is also a Medical Tent located in the Event Village too.
Emergency Radio Procedures:
When calling in a medical incident on the radio, it is important to make note of the following:
- Specify the location on course/village (for example: next to ‘Cage Crawl’; just passed Mile 6, in the Merchandise tent).
- Specify their gender.
- Specify their clothing (for example, blue shirt and red shorts, no shirt and black shorts)
- Specify distinguishable features, if any.
- If you have their participant number, relay this to the radio so that we can find the person's credentials and personal details.
This description helps the Medical Team locate the person on site.
Please note: never radio the nature of the injury. Our Medical Team will diagnose the injury when they arrive on scene and inform the Command Center.
Non-Life Threatening Call: for example, a cut or a twisted ankle:
Make a radio call on your channel stating - ‘MEDIC, MEDIC, MEDIC, (YOUR LOCATION)’.
You will then be asked to relay and specify as much information on the person as possible, from the list below:
- Location
- Gender
- Area of body
- Clothing
- Participant Number
Urgent Medical Call: This should only be used when there is an immediate risk to loss of a limb, head/neck injury or potentially life-threatening:
Make a radio call on your channel stating - ‘URGENT, URGENT, URGENT, (YOUR LOCATION)’.
You will then be asked to relay and specify as much information on the person as possible, from the list below:
- Gender
- Area of body injured
- Clothing
- Participant number
- If individual is conscious or unconscious
Section 3: Others
Suspicious Packages
Our motto across all events are as follows, “If you see something, say something!“
It can be difficult to determine when to report something suspicious but we ask you to decide whether or not something is out of the ordinary. Use common sense, and follow these guidelines:
- Trust your instincts; if something feels wrong, don’t ignore it.
- Do not assume that someone else has already reported it.
- Look around to see if there is someone who may have just dropped the bag. You may shout out and ask if it is someone’s bag.
If the bag is not claimed:
- Keep your distance from the suspicious package and do not approach or tamper with it.
- Radio in or ask someone to report it to a TMHQ staff member.
- Follow procedures given to you by the TMHQ team.
Severe Weather:
Our event team always monitors the weather before and during an event to maintain its safety. If severe weather such as a lightning storm occurs, the Event Director will make a strategic decision about the safety of the event. It may be determined as necessary to pause the event or, in extreme cases, evacuate and postpone the event. Be flexible and ready to work with the organisational team to support the evacuation of the event.
If you are required to action anything; for example, shutting down an obstacle. You will be briefed by your Zone Leader in advance of supporting and how you can support the Operations Team.
Lost Child - Village:
In Mudder Village: If you find a lost child, keep the child with you and request support from a member of TMHQ to collect the child.
Once a staff member or Volunteer (you) takes possession of a lost child, the child should only be released to a member of TMHQ (blue clothing with silver ‘STAFF’ letters on the back).
Any parent looking for a lost child should be directed to the Info Tent near the Check-In area, where the staff will commence with the ‘lost child’ protocol.
Our ‘Lost Child” protocol is as follows:
- Report the incident to your head of channel using the term ‘CODE BLUE’
- Remain with the parent or guardian
- The head of channel will meet you and collect the relevant information
- The head of channel will inform you of next steps
- At no point should details of the lost child be broadcast over the channel
Lost Child - Course:
Look around to ensure the parent isn’t near-by. If you have looked and cannot find their parents, keep them with you until you have notified your Zone Leader or a Medic who can radio in and support you with the process.
